What an easy way to make a healthy and flavorful dinner. This recipe makes enough to freeze for another busy evening too!

Step 1
Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Fry the bacon pieces and the ground meat in batches until brown. Add to slow cooker.
Step 2
Add the onions, carrots, celery, garlic, mushrooms, tomatoes, tomato paste, herbs, wine (if using), vinegar, sugar and seasoning (salt and pepper) to the slow cooker.
Step 3
Cover and cook on Low for 6-8 hours, then uncover, turn to High and cook for another hour until thick and saucy.
Step 4
Serve with cooked pasta and grated or shaved parmesan cheese.
